New Business Books

How can I join, or create a network of new entrepreneurs/business real estate investors in NJ or NY?
I’m just about to get started. For the past year I have been mentally preparing myself to become a business owner / real estate investor. I have been reading books, listening to CD’s, and learning of the accomplishments of some of the most successful people of the yesterday and today, people like Dale Carnegie, Robert Kiyosaki, Earl Nightingale, Dolf Deroos and etc…. I have read and studied about many very successful companies. I just purchased an existing business, and taking the leap. I would greatly like to increase my leadership and networking skills. Also, I’m always looking for knew forms of education when it comes to personal development, business, and investing, I’ll study anything, so any shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to help.
Yahoo can help. (No, I do not work for Yahoo)
Learn more about Yahoo Groups. I have used Yahoo Groups to create to National Networking Groups for my industry and one local group.
When you meet other potential investors, buyers, sellers, tenants, etc. it makes for a great “intro” to ask them if they would like to join your “Northeast Real Estate Investment Group” (Or whatever you want to call it.)
Most people will ask you what that is and it provides you with an opportunity to pitch your business in a very “non-threatening” way.
Also, look into:
www.linkedin.com
This is sort of a “Six Degrees of Separation” networking tool and is, in my opinion, an excellent resource.
www.plaxo.com
This is a “Smart Address” tool and very handy in keeping up with people as their contact information changes.
(NOTE: I am not connected in any way with any of the above mentioned services. I just use them!)
I hope this helps…

Somewhere over the Rainbow: The Golden Age of Hollywood Musicals $14.04 The “Golden Age” referred to here spans The Jazz Singer and the advent of the talkies to the death throes of the old studio system in the 1960s. So vast was the era’s musical landscape that even this 42-track, double-disc anthology can’t encompass all its peaks. Not surprisingly, the bulk of this collection originated with the Tiffany’s of the screen musical, M-G-M, a body of work whose riches her… |

The Business of Books $4.48 Post-war American publishing has been ruthlessly transformed since Andre Schiffrin joined its ranks in 1956. Gone is a plethora of small but prestigious houses that often put ideas before profit in their publishing decisions, sometimes even deliberately. Now six behemoths share 80% of the market and profit margin is all. Andre Schiffrin can write about these changes with authority because he witnessed them from inside a conglomerate, as head of Pantheon, co-founded by his father, bought (and sold) by Random House. And he can write about them with candor because he is no longer on the inside, having quit corporate publishing in disgust to set up a flourishing independent house, The New Press. Schiffrin’s evident affection for his authors sparkles throughout a story woven around publishing the work of those such as Studs Terkel, Noam Chomsky, Gunnar Myrdal, George Kennan, Juliet Mitchell, R.D.Laing, Eric Hobsbawm and E.P.Thompson. Part-memoir, part-history, here is an account of the collapsing standards of contemporary publishing that is irascible, acute and passionate. An engaging counterpoint to recent, celebratory memoirs of the industry written by those with more stock options and fewer scruples than Schiffrin, The Business of Books warns of the danger to adventurous, intelligent publishing in the bullring of today’s marketplace. |

Business $3.48 Most Introduction to Business texts treat business functions–marketing, accounting, management, etc.–as separate concepts, loosely tied together by the notion that each has something to do with business. As a result, students gain little understanding of how the functions operate together within a business. This text presents business functions within the context of a business as an integrated whole. Using real examples, cases, and personal profiles, it illustrates how the various business functions interrelate to accomplish the goals of the business. |
